When most people think about Hawaii, they think about black sand beaches, volcanic islands, and year round 80-degree weather. The city of Honolulu hosts the world famous Waikiki Strip, home to Shella Sanders a.k.a. “The Blasian,” a nickname derived from her Black and Asian heritage. She is a professional rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, engineer and model. Overall, Shella is a commercially viable female M.C. that can rap or sing her melodic lines and catchy phrases in either English or Japanese. Her exotic style has been featured on many songs worldwide over the years, making her an international success.

Shella was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Japanese mother and AfricanAmerican father causing her musical influences to stem from both cultures. She got her start in music at age 11 as a DJ for school events and house parties spinning mostly House and Hip Hop music. She enjoyed writing and performing remixes to entertain friends. Shella has always been a fan of Eve, Da Brat, Lady of Rage and Mc Lyte, so it came as no surprise to family and friends when rapping over instrumentals became her forte. Tragically, her father was killed a year later and her passion for music grew as she learned how to turn bad emotions to good ones by writing and singing songs.

By age 14, Shella had recorded many songs and began to get radio play. She appeared on several compilations throughout the Hawaiian Islands, often collaborating with other artists from her home island of Oahu. During this time she was the opening act for several major artists including Ne-yo, Styles, P, Lauryn Hill, Paul Wall, Flo-Rida & Sean Paul. At age 15 Shella’s following grew beyond Hawaii and caught the eye of many record executives. She was flown to New York to shop a record deal and took an interest in Swizz Beatz mRuff Ryders label. Everything in her life and music career seemed to be working out but dreadfully Shella’s mother was murdered in Waikiki, which forced her to move to the mainland with family at age 16. Numb to the world with music as her only outlet. Shella started to produce her own original tracks and songs. After graduating high school a year early, Shella went on to study audio engineering and received her pro tools operator’s license which enabled her to network and engineer sessions with many platinum selling artists such as Lil Fiip and the late great Nate Dogg, a west coast pioneer of G-Funk along with Snoop Dogg and Warren G. She put out various mix-tapes that coined her as a bilingual songstress and appeared on many promotional projects such as the Toyota Scion CD sampler. This led her to embark on a journey to bridge the gap between Asian and American urban pop markets.

Upon the release of her first independent E.P. album “Blasian Music,” presented by DJ Princess Cut, lst lady of the Texas based world renowned screwed up click, Shella toured Japan and America’s southern region, branding herself as “The Blasian”. The album landed on the Billboard Top 100 Hip Hop/R&B album charts in 2008. Over the last few years, she’s built a fan base in the Japan Hip Hop scene. She’s currently living in Hollywood, California, recording, producing, modeling and running for the title of Miss California 2012, a prestigious beauty pageant owned by Donald Trump. Shella is featured on the current hit single, named ‘Freaky’, featuring platinum selling artists Akon and Jadakiss. The Blasian is hard at work on her debut Major album release to be distributed this year!
