I attended the Core DJs mixshow live 2012 this past weekend in Dallas! It was Nice to see Tony Neal again.. He was one of the first to endorse my single ‘GORGEOUS‘ off my first project ‘Blasian Music‘ back in 2008 when I was in Dallas with DJ Princess Cut!  I saw him at the core djs retreat in Miami last year and told him I was working on my next project but I didn’t have anything to play him, i didn’t even have a title for my solo project and I think we were still waiting to get the Akon feature on ’FREAKY’ collab with Mook Jadakiss and Shella Ruff Ryders.  So things have come together a LOT in a year and this summer the ‘GEISHA’ is coming!

People dont know that I actually started doing music as a DJ!  When I was just 11, I took an interest in DJ’ing because one of my middle school friends was DJ’ing with his older brother and I would go over to his house and try to learn how to scratch and blend records on his turn tables.  We were into mostly techno and house music and the only hint of hip hop was booty dance music like 69 boys and quad city DJ’s, etc.  My DJ’ing aspirations didn’t last long because as soon as my mom got me my own set of turn tables and I started digging in crates and getting my own set of records, I was able to experiment on my own and as I started mixing and blending acapellas with instrumentals on different records, I wanted to try to write remixes of songs like TLC  ’No Scrubs.’  I remember a group called Sporty Thieves did a remix called, ‘No Pigeons.’  So I wrote my own remix and that was one of the first ones I did.  I did a few more but when Dr. Dre came out with the chronic 2001, I got the double vinyl set and those instrumentals inspired me to want to write original songs… and the rest was history.  My turn tables started to collect dust, Napster was poppin i didn’t need to buy records to get instrumentals and my step father started taking me to the studio soon after and SHELLA the artist was born.

I LOVE DJ’s and the power that they have.  They can control how people move, think and feel when they are in control of what is being played in the room.  As an Artist, I feel it is more individualistic.. people are taken by the personality and the story of the individual artist.  The DJ can combine a hundred different personalities and characters in one mix all together.  I always want to befriend DJ’s and they usually bring me feedback on my records and let me know the general response it gets in their setting where they play it, whether that  is the club, radio or parties.

So RESPECT the DJ and tell them all to play that BLASIAN MUSIC!

Flew back from Japan less than 48 hrs before the Miss California 2012 pageant that was in Palm Springs this year.  It was a VERY busy weekend filled with rehearsals, licking pretzels and very little sleep.  The Donald Trump Miss USA pageant consists of three sections which are: interview, swimsuit and evening gown (too bad there was no talent section!).  My 3 minute interview went very well.. the 1st question the judges asked me was ‘what is the Blasian..’ so of course I had them all smiling : )  Almost 300 woman in the pageant competing and only one winner (above standing next to me in the gold dress miss Natalie Ann Park).  I met a lot of girls that were competing in the pageant for the third, fourth an fifth year trying to win… or at least get selected in the top 20.  To me it wasn’t about winning, it was about the exposure that this gave me and connecting with all the beautiful women that came out representing different areas of California and introducing them to my music.  I really appreciate all the kindness and embrace I received on stage during rehearsals and in the halls during preliminaries and the pageant while I was singing, rapping and doing me, entertaining!  I posted some moments on my SHELLA DA BLASIAN page.. Now that the pageant is over, I have to get back to finishing my album..
